From a Food Stand to a Family Legacy
In 2001, my wife Gloria and I started selling food on the streets of Los Angeles. We had no storefront, just a small food stand and a dream—to bring the flavors of Guadalajara, Jalisco, to the community. We knew we had something special, and our customers knew it too. They kept coming back, telling their friends, and helping our little stand grow into something bigger than we ever imagined.
Bringing Guadalajara to California
One dish put us on the map: the torta ahogada. This classic sandwich, filled with carnitas and dipped in spicy or mild sauce, is a signature dish of our hometown. Back then, you couldn’t find it easily in the U.S. We wanted to change that. We took pride in being among the first to introduce this dish to American diners, giving people from Jalisco a taste of home and sharing it with new generations.
Growing with Our Customers
As word spread, our small food stand couldn’t keep up with demand. In 2004, we upgraded to a catering lunch truck, bringing our food to even more people. The truck was a success, but our customers wanted a place to sit and enjoy their meals. So, in 2007, we opened our first restaurant in Los Angeles. Three years later, we partnered with our daughter Cindy to open a second location in Huntington Park. This location gave us more space and a chance to serve even more people.

For many of our customers, our food is more than just a meal. It’s a reminder of home, family, and tradition. We hear stories from people who grew up eating tortas ahogadas in Mexico and are thrilled to find the same flavors here. We see families passing down their love for our food to their kids. That’s what keeps us going.
